One Step Closer

Third time's a charm. Woo. So, I decided to rant today! 'About what?' you may be wondering.
COVER SONGS
For the most part, I hate them. Unless they are done really well, which isn't very often.
Let's go with an example of a good cover song: Holy Diver covered by Killswitch Engage. That song is flawless. The lead singer, Howard Jones, pulls of this song perfectly. Not only did this amazing band cover the song, they also put their own twist on the music video. Very clever, Killswitch!
And now, a bad cover: Astro Zombies, covered by My Chemical Romance. I mean, what the hell dudes? No offence to MCR, [I love the dudes] but how can they do that to The Misfits? MCR's sound is too clean cut for a Misfits cover. This was the first My Chem. song that I had to turn off before it ended; I didn't want it tainting my love [Hahaha, song referance there] for the amazing song Astro Zombies.
In my [not so] humble opinion cover songs are just a way for a band to a) try and sound more like the bands they listened to when they were itsy-bitsy rockers, b) a way to get more fans ['I mean, they listen to this band, so they must be good' is going through peoples' heads, sadly], c) just a filler for their lack of ideas for their latest CD/EP/Demo.
Small, starting, young bands out there: If you do a cover, make it good.
